One of a number of paintings of the Port of Nice by the French Impressionist Berthe Morisot (1841-1895), this painting depicts the port as a background for a single sailboat. Morisot and her husband Eugene Manet, Edouard Manet’s brother, spent at least one of their winters in a hotel along the waterway. This is one of several paintings which depict the bright sunlit waters of the port and the many ships that traveled to and from the port.
