A pair of spaniels are on the scent in this charming sporting landscape by the American artist Edmund Henry Osthaus (1858-1928). The black, brown and white spotted dogs are in a fall field under a partly cloudy sky and have clearly caught the scent of their prey.
Osthaus was himself an avid sportsman, kept his own dogs and was a driving force in establishing the National Field Trial Association. To learn more about the artist and see more of his work, please visit our biography of Edmund Henry Osthaus.
