Perhaps her most famous painting, No Walk Today shows the French-born British artist Sophie Gengembre Andserson’s fine attention to detail. Like so many of her works, the overall appearance of the painting is quite like a photograph rather than a typical Victorian-era painting. Check out the detail in the lace curtains and collar the child is wearing. A child of apparent wealth, the little girl in this painting is dressed to go for a walk but gazes forlornly out the window unhappy about the inclement weather which is keeping her indoors.
While there is no documented evidence that Anderson and her husband ever had children, some suspect that the charming little girl in this painting and several others is in fact the artist’s own daughter.
