…by the famous artist Wouter Troostwijk
Undated watercolor by the painter Wouter Troostwijk (1872-1810). Troostwijk painted in the Netherlands Romanticism style and his en plein air landscapes are thought to have greatly influenced Dutch artists painting in the late 19th Century.
In this painting, we have a young girl sitting in the grass alongside a country lane overlooking the panoramic landscape. A horse stands nearby at a fence and birds fly overhead as the sky looks threatening. Troostwijk was admired for his portrayal of atmospheric events. This painting is a great example of that concept as it is easy to see the shadows cast upon the fields by the dark clouds in the sky.
